Senegal

Senegal is the westernmost country of continental Africa. Pointe des Almadies, on the Cap-Vert peninsula at Dakar, is the continent's westernmost point. The country takes its name from the Senegal River, which runs along its northern border, and it wraps around the Gambia, a narrow strip of land following the Gambia River. That notch is part of the country's own outline. The flag dates from 1960: three vertical bands, green, yellow and red, with a green five-pointed star in the middle. Chapter 1 covers ten places.

The design

One travel poster per place: a scene drawn in flat colour under heavy black lines, no gradients, and the name of the place across the top in large hand-drawn capitals. No two places in a chapter share the same background colour. The print file is 7200 × 10800 pixels, which is 300 dpi at the largest size.

The frame

An ayous wood frame, 1.9 cm thick, from renewable forests, in black, white or red oak. The poster is printed on thick matte paper at 189 g/m² and sits behind an acrylite front protector, which is lighter than glass and does not shatter. Hanging hardware is in the box. Shipping is charged on wall art.

Made to order

Every Niokolo piece is made once the order comes in, one at a time. Nothing is held in stock, and nothing gets made that no one asked for.

Niokolo is a clothing and wall-art label built on African heritages: one chapter per country, ten places per chapter, and a hippo born in the Gambia River doing the travelling. Chapter 1 is Senegal. Wear your roots.
