Niokolo-Koba Canvas Tote
The drawing is a picture here, laid on a ground of ochre yellow and printed on the canvas of the bag. A green monkey sits in profile on a fallen trunk, dark-faced, long-tailed. A flared baobab and a band of blue-green river close the back. In front stand an antelope with ringed horns, a terracotta jar, a tuft of stiff grass and a grey rock.

Niokolo-Koba
Niokolo-Koba gave the brand its name. It became a national park in 1954 and a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1981: 913,000 hectares of wooded savannah and gallery forest in south-east Senegal. The Gambia River crosses it, on its way from Guinea to the Atlantic, and hippos live in the river. The Derby eland is the largest antelope in the world, and its western form survives in the wild nowhere but here. UNESCO took the park off its list of World Heritage in Danger in July 2024, after seventeen years.
The design
The place drawn as a poster: an upright painted composition that prints on the canvas as a full rectangle, edges and all. The name is set into the picture, in big black capitals. One subject holds the middle, with three to five large objects in the foreground. Flat colours, black keylines, a few large shapes.
The tote
A cotton tote in one size for everyone: 38 by 42 cm, or 15 by 16.5 inches. The canvas is 140 g/m², lighter than the tee. Inside, one large main compartment. The carrying handles are medium length, 67 cm. Capacity is 10 litres. Three colours: Burgundy, Bottle Green and Orange. The blank comes from Pakistan. The tote carries no inside label, because the catalogue has no placement for one on this bag.
Made to order
Every Niokolo piece is made once the order comes in, one at a time. Nothing is held in stock, and nothing gets made that no one asked for. One price across every size, from the smallest to the largest.
Niokolo is a clothing and wall-art label built on African heritages: one chapter per country, ten places per chapter, and a hippo born in the Gambia River doing the travelling. Chapter 1 is Senegal. Wear your roots.
